Again, Need Help Choosing My Major.?
Class of 08 student here. I’m still having a very hard time choosing my major. I read these books about Majpr choosing. And it said choose 10-15 majors, research them. And determine whether you have the knowledge, talent, and capability of this major. I choose 7 majors. But they may not be right for me.
Computer Support Specialist- I’m good with computers(says my mother), but I’m not very patient with other people, and i tend to be very nervous when on the phone.
Criminology- I’m not assertive enough to be cop. or a forensic scientist, i’m not sure if i could be capable of that
Sociology- Researching human behavior. But I’m too biased.
I took an apititude test to see which major is right for me. Called ASVAB. These are the major, id be most compatible with.?
What do you think? Do you have any tips on choosing majors?
Screw all that major-choosing book crap. Choose something that you love to do. Do you like writing, math. Believe me, that is a degree and a job for virtually any thing you could possibly want to do.
Hun, don’t worry so much.
First off, you can change your major as often as you like.
Secondly, most people don’t get a job in their chosen field when they graduate.
Third, when it comes to work and hiring, most employers prefer that you just have a degree and the major is just a bonus.
Keep your personal interests front and centre…they’re YOUR interests, not your parents’ or your friends.
If you choose something you’re good at but you’re not too crazy about, you’ll be bored if you stay in that field.
Don’t worry so much. But DO NOT close any doors…what i mean is take that course you don’t think you’d like but you have to take anyway – it might be really interestign or you’ll have a really good passionate prof who will make you think twice about disliking a subject.
The most important advice i can give you is to keep an open mind and go with the flow. Don’t stress, i promise the answer will come to you.
Do you know which university you’ll be going to? If so, go online and look at their Schedule of Classes. See what classes look interesting to you, and see what Major they’re affiliated with.
Step one : Think of a job you would not mind doing for free , many people pick a major because of the money but then they end up living an un-happy life, hating to wake up and go to work (always looking misreable) and plus you will have to do interships in your last year of college and you will be doing alot of work for no pay just the experience.
Step Two: then research colleges you have in mind and make sure they have a good program surrounding that major. Do you research …for instance if you wanna go to school for Psychology but you to a shool where 75% of the students are bussiness majors its gonna be hard for you to get into graduate school.
Goodluck i went through the same thing and once someone told me these 2 steps i felt alot of weight fall off my shoulders.
