Are Computer Forensic Investigators Regarded As Certified Cops?
well my question pretty much says it all. just out of curiosity, if you’re a computer forensic investigator are you like an actual cop? like do you get a gun and badge and stuff? please explain in detail.
no you are not an officer if you do forensic investigation. forensic investigators are usually regular citizens hired by the police dept.
unless you are certified by the state as a law enforcement officer then youre not a law enforcement officer. cops carry credentials. forensics guys carry crime kits. you can work for the police department in a civilian capacity but that doesnt mean youre a cop. your uniform might have a badge on it but THAT doesnt mean youre a cop.
where i was at, the computer forensics guys WERE actual cops. detectives actually. the crime scene investigators were just people with badges on their uniforms. it probably varies from department to department.
In the UK you are treated as a civil worker and are employed by the police department. In the US there is a little bit of a crossover but only certain people are recognised as being within law enforcement. The rest are treated as civilians who work for the police.
So only a few exceptions within the US will get a gun and a badge.
there are both act 120 and civilian cyb3er investigators. there are units that handle the investigation from the incipient stages to the arrest and prosecution as well a just support and resource groups or task force that employ individuals with full powers of arrest and limited powers as well as no powers
I doubt it.
You shouldn’t have to pass a physical or know how to arrest anybody just to scan a hard drive and look for file fragments.
