i need to recover my data from my portable hard drive that says it needs to be formatted before i can use it.
the software needs to be free, not just a trial becaause i do not have much money

I dont know how but some how I lost all of my data on one of my HDs. I’v managed to find some programs to recover the data but they are expensive and i mostly want to recover family pics.

I accidentally completely erased everything from my computer. I tried to do a system restore and restored it to factory settings. It is a compaq presario c500. I came across a product called search and recover, but I do not know if this is what I need. I also came across a product online called ontrack data recovery which sounds ok, but costs an arm and a leg. Is there anything out there that can help me get all my important information back?
What I did was a system recovery and not a system restore. Ant ideas?

While shrinking my Vista partition, another partition containing data is damaged. The NTFS file system now became RAW. Is there a data/partition recovery software that can change RAW file system back to NTFS? I know Easeus has one product called Data Recovery Wizard that can have the job done. But the $70 price tag is too expensive for me. Hope there is a freeware somewhere that can also do the same job. Thanks.

i’m currently pursuing my associates in computer security…but it’s really hard and id like a more simple job…forensics has started to interest me more..and i heard my background w.t security i could transfer into that but ive been reading the work is more on your own finding local police agencies only when they need u not full time permanent type job

I am looking for a good data recovery service (preferably in Manhattan) that is neither wildly expensive (preferably below $400), that will not destroy my hard drive. I’ve heard that bad data recovery services can actually make it impossible for you to ever get your data back. I don’t want to lose my data to inexperienced people. Thanks for any advice.

Also, if there is a company that is really good and affordable that I can mail my Hard Drive to, then that might work too.
