John Jay College of Criminal Justice actually offers a degree in forensic science, one of the few in the nation to do sohttp://www.jjay.cuny.edu/
I have a friend at the forensic science program at VCU (Virginia Commonwealth University), which is supposed to be rather good. Undergraduate forensic science programs are rare and you’re going to have a hard time finding more than one or two if you narrow your search regionally.
Regardless, here’s the advice I’ve heard several times from friends working towards that career:
Your undergraduate should be a B.S. in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or something along those lines. Jobs look more favorably on graduate work in forensic science with a broader field for undergraduate then they do with an undergraduate in forensic science.
I’d check out Northeastern in Boston. They have a great co-op program that would help you get some first hand experience.
Waynesburg College (soon to be University) has an excellent Forensic Science program. They host mock crime scenes for students and have had students do internships with Cyril Wecht.
